The St. Vincent de Paul Ministry at St. Christopher Parish is a faith-based outreach rooted in the Catholic tradition of serving Christ in the poor with love, respect, and compassion. Inspired by the example of Blessed Frédéric Ozanam and Saint Vincent de Paul — who devoted his life to caring for those in need — this ministry embodies the Gospel call to serve our neighbors in practical and meaningful ways.

Through personal, face-to-face service ("Home Visits"), members of our parish conference respond to individuals and families within our parish boundaries who are facing financial hardship, food insecurity, or other urgent needs. The ministry offers support that may include:

  • Providing food access through coordinated efforts with local food pantries and partner organizations
  • Providing a way for families to obtain furniture, appliances, linens, clothing, and housewares
  • Providing new and used beds to families that are sleeping on the floor
  • Assisting with basic necessities and resources for families experiencing hardship
  • Offering referrals and information to help connect families with other community support services
  • Engaging in compassionate listening and prayerful presence for those in difficult circumstances

This ministry not only addresses immediate physical needs but also fosters spiritual support and friendship, recognizing the dignity of every person served. Members meet regularly for prayer, fellowship, and planning to ensure that their work reflects both charity and the love of Christ.

There are many practical ways to serve, including assisting at the Saint Christopher &/or SVDP Food Pantry — SVDP Pantry at 3001 E. 30th St. — where volunteers help sort and distribute food; participating in outreach outings supporting the Unsheltered with Beggars for the Poor homeless ministry; or helping with warehouse and donation support at 1201 East Maryland Street.

Volunteering is your call — volunteer once for a couple of hours or as long and often as you want.

It is a great activity for families to do together.

Whether you are interested in volunteering, want to learn how to make a tangible difference in the lives of your neighbors, or are in need of assistance, the St. Vincent de Paul Ministry welcomes you.
