To be legally married, a couple must first obtain a marriage license. To obtain a marriage license, you must first complete an online marriage license application, complete your appointment in the office or virtually, and then get married by a wedding officiant who records the marriage license in the office.

Apply for a marriage license online (must be done prior to your appointment) Walk-ins are welcome. No appointment is necessary. Walk-in appointments are only in room W122 of the Indianapolis City-County Building. There are no walk-in appointments available at the Community Justice Campus. Marriage License Fee
The fee for Indiana residents is $25; out-of-state residents pay $65. You can use cash or a credit/debit card to pay the fee. There is a processing charge for credit/debit cards. A marriage license is valid for 60 days. You must get married before the end of those 60 days. If you don’t, the license will be voided. You can apply for a new license, but you must complete the application process and pay the filing fee again.
Residents outside Marion County
If you live in Indiana but in a different county, apply for a license in your home county. Out-of-state visitors planning to marry in Marion County must apply for their license in the Marion County Clerk’s Office.
